Programs

Here are some programs that are happy in helping parents and caregivers some information on the subject:

USDA

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) put together the Dietary Guidelines for Americans which encourages Americans, including North Idaho, to take in a few less calories, snack less during the day, work to be more physically active during the day, and be more knowledgeable of the foods you consume.

MyPlate

The USDA also put together MyPlate which does a fantastic job in visually appealing to audiences about food choices and ways to stay healthy. Remember the food pyramid? It may have been a little confusing to some, where foods at the higher, narrower end of the triangle are those that should be consumed in moderation or rarely. The confusing pyramid has been replaced with a circular 'My Plate' which aims to show that nutrition does not have to be complicated. MyPlate reminds us to continue eating well-balanced meals that contain more vegetables, fruits, and whole-grains, low-fat dairy and lean proteins!

Idaho Dept of Health and Welfare

The Department of Health and Welfare, put together for Idaho, gives tips on how to stay healthy and what foods to keep in your diet! Vegetables that are orange or green are always a smart choice to stick with and leafy vegetables hold a lot of calcium that is essential for adults growing up and wanting to keep healthy teeth and bones.
